16 weeks & 1 day!
Bump is getting so round now and it is really beginning to settle in that we are going to be a little family. 'Butterbean' was not planned but we really couldn't be happier.
I began sleeping all the time - not unusual for me but falling asleep at 8:15pm on a friday night and not waking up until 10:30am the next day was a bit much! We took the plunge and did a test just before we went on holiday - 6pm sunday evening and if I was pregnant we wouldn't need to wait for the morning piddle! All we wanted the test for was to prove to ourselves and for peace of mind that I could go on holiday and drink without worrying about possibly being pregnant. To our disbelief the two lines came up straight away and we both sat and cried! We sat and racked our brains about how far along I could be but to be honest we really didn't have any idea. A trip to the midwife and our EDD was the 25th Jan 2014 which seemed about right. Things weren't really straight forward at first due to my strong family history of lupus and my bloods coming back not exactly right so we were referred by my doctor for an early scan at the early pregnancy unit a week before our scheduled routine 12 week scan.
Can't say I liked the doctor who actually questioned me wether we had done a test and if I really felt pregnant or not! She then had the cheek to say it wouldn't look like a baby (if there was something inside me) so we probably wouldn't get any pictures. She then decided to tell us she had to be supervised whilst doing the scan as she was new to the job - surprise there!!
BAM - there was a huge baby on the screen and it looked like a baby too! The supervisor told us baby was very healthy and I had a beautiful cervix - she clearly loves her job. She said my womb and baby were so photogenic and asked for my permission to let two junior doctors 'practice' on me. Everyone has to learn somewhere hey. So on the 15th July I was 13 weeks & 1 day and my EDD is the 19th January 2014 and we couldn't be happier.
We plan not to find out the gender of the baby as we think the surprise would be incredible - although I am convinced we are having a girl! We are slowly buying things as and when we see it so it is not a big hit in the long run and clothes and wipes are rapidly building up!
